A big season for McQuoid

It is good to see that AFCB had a story on Josh McQuoid earlier this week saying how he feels his decision to leave Millwall for a return to the south coast was vindicated, but now Josh must show the fans that he is a better player than we have seen in the last few months.

He has much work to do to regain a starting 11 place now that Matt Ritchie is happy playing on the right wing and Wes Fogden, Ryan Fraser and Donal McDermott are more than enough competition for a place. The left wing might offer him more of a chance but Pugh has made that position his own, while Josh does not seem to be that striker who was so devastating any more.

Not sure how many layers
Josh has on here

Josh McQuoid was one of the players who I thought would be a strong influence on the Cherries team when he came back to the club after his time at Millwall. Josh had only played a few games for the first team at AFCB before he was picked up by Kenny Jacket, first on loan and then permanently, but his form when he left AFCB in 2010 was pretty sensational. He was a real goal threat. At Millwall he showed glimpses of his talent and when he was loaned to Burnley, but he couldn't hold a regular place down in either team. The same seems to have happened at AFCB.

I am sure it is McQuoid's direct running power at goal that had alerted Millwall to his services. It is something that terrified defenders, because Josh showed such pace and close dribbling skill when he burst on to the scene. But some of the belief or the fitness level would appear to have fallen away a bit for me.

Last season Josh made 39 appearances and many of them were in the starting 11 in the first half of the season, but in the end 14 of them were as a sub. Five goals and 3 assists were his stats at the scoring end of the pitch.

Josh signed a three year contract with the Cherries in May 2012 in a swap deal with Scott Malone. He is now 23 and next season will be massive for him. If Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall can get him back to his best Josh can terrorise defences in the Championship.

Competition for places will be tough, but Josh has to believe that he can be as influential as these players in the coming season.
